Dwight Finch Andrews, Jr., died on 18 August 2026. He was born on 2 February 1941 to Dwight Finch Andrews and Nina Nelson Andrews in Columbia, South Carolina. Dwight spent his formative years in Winter Park, Florida. He graduated from Winter Park High School, traveled widely in Europe, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of South Carolina.Dwight dedicated many years of service to the Richland County Public Library and later worked as an archivist for the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. Outside his professional life he was an active participant in his community as a member of The Columbia Cotillion Club and of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He possessed a deep fascination with finance. A generous spirit, he frequently shared his financial knowledge to guide and help his friends and colleagues over the years. He had an ability to face life’s challenges with an unwavering resilience that inspired everyone who knew him, while his sharp wit and gentle spirit brought joy to every room he entered.He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his stepson, John Mahon Brimelow, and by John's late wife, Bobbie Battista.Dwight is survived by his loving wife, Judith Mahon Andrews; his stepdaughter, Kathleen Brimelow Williams (Glenn); and his sisters, Nina Andrews Peyton (Angus, deceased) and Anna Andrews Haltiwanger (J. William). He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and step-grandchildren.Dwight will be fondly remembered for his kindness, intelligence, thoughtfulness, wry sense of humor, and resilience. As one friend beautifully noted, he was the ultimate open-minded Southern gentleman—a perfect epitaph for a deeply loved man.A memorial service celebrating Dwight's life will be held on Tuesday 1 September 2026 at 11 am at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Richland Library Friends and Foundation, Tina S.
