Gregory Anthony Mensching

22 septembre 2026 Dignity Memorial

Gregory A. Mensching, Jr. was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1945 and grew up in Queens. He graduated from Siena College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and went on to build a career in human resources, where he spent many years working with and supporting employees throughout his professional life.

Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Gregory A. Mensching, Sr.; his mother, Marion (Peters) Mensching; and his sister, Rosemary (Mensching) Reidy. He is survived by his sister, Barbara (Mensching) Spinelli and her husband, John, and their daughter, Sophia; and by his four sons, David (Stacey), Matthew (Karen), Gregory (Kristine), and James (Heather), along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gregory was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: David Jonathan, Zoei, Tyler, Pearce, Logan, Evan, Cassandra, and Grace; and a great-grandfather to Audrey, Quinn, Benjamin, and Dean.

Gregory loved basketball, ice cream, and a good plate of spaghetti and meatballs, but nothing mattered more to him than his family and his faith.

To those who loved him, Gregory was their secret weapon against evil—a man who believed deeply in the power of prayer. He faithfully prayed for his sons and grandchildren, his sister and her family, and countless others, always holding a steadfast belief that God could heal, reconcile, and unite.

Gregory carried a deep desire to help connect people with God. He served others through men’s prison ministry and as a youth catechist and, perhaps most characteristically, as a quiet warrior for anyone he learned was struggling or in need of God’s intercession. Gregory did not seek recognition for his prayers or his service. He simply saw a need and prayed.

He was also a proud member of Knights of Columbus Council 11768, continuing his lifelong commitment to faith, service, and fellowship.

In the later years of his life, Gregory faced Parkinson’s disease with courage and grace, drawing strength from the faith that had sustained him throughout his life.

His greatest legacy can be found in the family he loved, the faith he lived, and the many people he quietly carried in prayer throughout his life. In the end, he found true peace of heart and mind.
