Jan Marie Haney

28 septembre 2026 Dignity Memorial

Jan Marie Haney, beloved mother, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at the age of 89.

Jan was born on May 16, 1937. Throughout her life, she was a hardworking and devoted woman who found joy in her family, her work, and the many people she came to know along the way.

During the early years of her marriage to her first husband, Larry Walter Lewis, Jan dedicated herself to being a homemaker and raising her family. After their divorce, Jan continued to build a life centered around family and hard work. She later married Fred Haney, who preceded her in death in 2001. Jan and Fred will be laid to rest together at Evergreen Cemetery.

As her son & daughter Larry & Brenda attended Whittier Elementary School, Jan began working at the school as a lunch lady. Her work there allowed her to be close to her son while becoming a familiar and caring presence in the school community. Later in life, Jan worked as a cleaner at WA Oakes, where she continued to show the strong work ethic that was such an important part of who she was.

But Jan was perhaps best known for her love of books and the small business she created from that passion. She opened Jan’s Book Rack, a used bookstore at the Everett Public Market. The store became a special part of Jan’s life and a place where her love of books brought her into contact with countless people. To those who knew her, Jan’s Book Rack was more than simply a place to buy a used book—it reflected Jan herself: independent, hardworking, welcoming, and passionate about the things she loved.

Jan leaves behind a legacy of hard work, family, and the simple joys found in a good book and a connection with others. She will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched throughout her 89 years.

Jan will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Fred, at Evergreen Cemetery.
