Janeen Aldredge Odom

Janeen Aldredge Odom passed away on August 20, 2026, surrounded by family members at the age of 81. Born in Beaumont, Texas on August 11, 1945, she was the daughter of Charles Smith Aldredge and Georgie Mae Aldredge. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her loving husband of 55 years, Donald Edward Odom.

Janeen valued education and dedicated much of her life to teaching and serving others. She was a 1963 graduate of French High School. She attended Stephen F. Austin University and Lamar University, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lamar University in 1967. After graduation, she became a second-grade teacher at Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor, Texas, where she nurtured and educated hundreds of students in a career spanning 30 years.

Following her teaching career, Janeen continued sharing her love of learning and history, as a museum curator at the Edison Plaza Museum. She was also an active member of First Methodist Church of Vidor. Janeen enjoyed shopping, traveling, out-fishing her boys with a 9 lb 5 oz black bass, and especially loved cheering for the Houston Astros and the LSU Tigers, a pastime that brought her great joy and many special moments with family and friends.

Above all, Janeen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her four sons, Brett Aldredge Odom and wife Angee, Trent Edward Odom, Donald Charles Odom and wife Amy, and Jay Wesley Odom and partner Jessica; her four grandchildren, Christopher Joseph Odom, Logan Joel Gould, Eric Charles Odom, and Grant Edward Odom; and her faithful dog, Sadie.

Janeen was always willing to give her time to anyone who needed help. Selfless and generous, she never hesitated to volunteer or lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Her kindness and willingness to serve others touched many lives and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Janeen will be remembered for a life devoted to family, education, faith, and service to her community. Through the many children she taught, the history she helped preserve, and most especially the family she loved, her legacy will continue for generations.
