Jean Cox Hill

Jean Cox Hill passed July 11, 2026 after a brief illness at Centennial Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. She was married in 1970 to John Hill, who survives.

Jean was preceded in death by mother and father, Jennye and Henry Cox of Louisville, Kentucky; mother-in-law, Mildred Espy of Carlsbad, California; and cousin, Harriett Nave, whom she considered her special friend. She is survived by children Adam Hill (Amy Hill) of Memphis, Tennessee and Melissa Hill (Matt Brown) of Columbus, Ohio; as well as grandchildren Katie Hill (Adam) and Audrey and Maggie Brown (Melissa). She is also survived by siblings Robert Cox and Ann Zeman of Louisville, Kentucky and David Cox of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is lastly survived by many loved cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. She thoroughly enjoyed the many special family outings and celebrations over the years.

Jean was born April 5, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky where she grew up before attending college. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1971 with a dual major in Education and Spanish. During her senior year, she married fellow student, John Hill. Jean worked various jobs during John's graduate training and early career and she eventually returned to college to major in Accounting after which she held a number of accounting positions. In 1991, she was diagnosed with a slowly progressive form of multiple sclerosis; she was eventually unable to continue her career due to her worsening symptoms and physical limitations.

Her immediate and extended family was very important and central to her enjoyment of a full life. Her church family was equally meaningful to her social and spiritual life, especially her choir and Bible study groups.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Donelson Presbyterian Church, located at 2305 Lebanon Pike in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 1, 2026 at 2:00 PM, preceded by a visitation at 1:00 PM. Donations may be made to Donelson Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
