December 24, 1946 – August 19, 2026Jorge Alejandro Donoso, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 79.Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1946, in Guayas, Ecuador to the late Pablo Donoso Manzano and Amada Veliz Egas, Jorge was full of ambition and a zest for life from an early age. At just 19 years old, he embarked on a brave journey to the United States in pursuit of new opportunities and the American Dream. He lived his American Dream!In 1969, Jorge married Saida Figueroa. Together, they built a warm, loving home and raised three wonderful children: Alexander, Suzy, and Edward. Jorge took immense pride in his family and was overjoyed to become a grandfather to Erik (son of Alexander), and Gianna and Juliana (daughters of Suzy).A man of exceptional dedication and work ethic, Jorge spent 35 distinguished years as a banquet waiter at the world-renowned Waldorf Astoria in New York City. He took great pride in his craft, serving at countless historic presidential galas, high-profile weddings, and landmark events throughout his career until his well-earned retirement in 2012.Jorge truly lived life to the fullest. For many years, one of his greatest daily joys was gazing out from his home in Long Island City, Queens, taking in the breathtaking views of the New York City skyline—a city he loved and contributed so much to.Jorge is survived by his wife, Saida; his children, Alexander, Suzy, and Edward; his cherished grandchildren, Erik, Gianna, and Juliana; and many extended family members and friends who will miss his warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit.He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
