Katherine Suit Sullivan, age 83, was born September 22, 1943, in Mena, Arkansas, and passed away peacefully at her home in Bossier City, Louisiana, on September 29, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Ivan Suit; her mother, Dottie Harris Suit; her husband, Laurie Dean Sullivan; and her sister, Margoret Ann Richards.
Katherine is survived by her children, Laurie Dean Sullivan Jr., Tanya Leigh Sullivan, and Cheryl Renea Sullivan; her daughter-in-law, Amanda Wade Sullivan; her grandchildren, Caleb Dean Sullivan, Anna Katherine Lee Sullivan, and Laurian Sullivan Franks; her sister, Peggy Sue Foster; her brother, John Ivan Suit Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Above all else, Katherine wanted to be remembered for her love of Jesus. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about; it was the way she tried to live her life. She wanted others to see Him in the way she loved, cared for, and treated those around her. Of all the things she gave her children, taking them to church and teaching them to know and love Jesus was among the greatest gifts she ever gave them. Her life was an example to them, and the faith she lived before them will continue to guide them long after her passing.
After her love for Jesus came the people she treasured most, her children, her grandchildren, and, of course, her beloved furry babies.
As a mother and grandmother, Katherine was simply always there. Her family came first, and she put herself last. It did not matter when they needed her, where they needed her, or what they needed from her; if she could be there, she was. If she had something they needed, she gave it. Again and again, she chose her family.
Her children know how fortunate they were to be loved that way. Not everyone is given a mother who shows up so completely, loves so selflessly, and gives so freely. Katherine did. Her family never had to wonder whether she would be there for them. She was there, every time.
Katherine had an artistic spirit and loved painting in her younger years, when her eyesight still allowed her to enjoy it fully. Gardening, however, remained a lifelong passion. She loved nothing more than getting her hands in the soil and watching something beautiful grow. In fact, she was known to take an entire week of vacation in the fall simply so she could spend it digging in the dirt.
She loved flowers of many kinds, but purple irises and ferns held a special place in her heart. Those who knew her well will forever associate them with her.
Her children will tell you that they cannot remember meeting anyone who did not describe Katherine as sweet and kind. Those simple words captured so much of who she was. She had a gentle nature, a tender heart, and a way of making people feel cared for.
Katherine leaves behind a family who loved her deeply, a lifetime of memories, and a legacy of faith, kindness, beauty, and love. Her family takes comfort in knowing that the Jesus she loved and served throughout her life is the One who welcomed her home.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Adams, Carl Foster Jr., KC Gunn, John Ramares, Brad Smith, and Caleb Dean Sullivan.
