Linda Amberg-Keyes, 76, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on September 27, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Linda was born on June 27, 1950, in Arkansas, to Herman Green and Jennie Sue Polic. She spent nearly her entire life in Springfield, where she built a life centered around caring for others, both personally and professionally.
Linda was a nurse for many years, including working at Brother James Court. Nursing suited her caring nature. She genuinely enjoyed helping people and was a wonderful listener who could always be counted on to offer thoughtful advice, comfort, or simply an understanding ear when someone needed it.
Linda loved her family deeply and cherished spending time with them. She especially enjoyed laughing together, sharing stories, and reminiscing about loved ones and the memories they had made over the years.
She also appreciated life’s simple pleasures. Linda loved taking car rides on sunny days and being surrounded by nature, especially beautiful trees. She had a way of enjoying the little things that made an ordinary day special.
Linda also dearly loved her cat, Fred, and got a great deal of amusement from his independent adventures. Fred would occasionally disappear on one of his excursions and return home scratched up and looking as though he had been in quite a fight. Linda found it hilarious imagining where he had been, what he had encountered, and just what kind of trouble he had managed to find before making his way back home.
Linda married Warren Keyes on September 14, 2010.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Amberg of San Antonio, Texas, and Joshua Amberg of Carson City, Nevada; her grandchildren, Colton Amberg and Nicole Magro; her sister, Deb Caruso; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Green and Jennie Sue Polic; her sister, Ollie “Suzy” Coady; and her brothers, Edward “Ed” Glines and Lee Green.
Linda will be remembered for her caring heart, her laughter, her ability to listen without judgment, and the compassion she showed throughout her life. Whether she was caring for someone as a nurse, offering advice to a loved one, laughing over an old story, enjoying a sunny drive, admiring a beautiful tree, or wondering what adventure Fred had gotten himself into, Linda found happiness in caring for others and appreciating the simple moments in life.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Family and Friends are welcome to a memorial visitation on Wednesday, September 30,2026 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL 62703 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
