Temple Lynn Lymberis, 82, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on September 28, 2026. She was a New Year’s baby, born on January 1, 1944, in Alexandria, Louisiana, and the first baby born at the hospital that year. Her family always joked that being first was part of who she was from the start.
Temple’s early years took her from Alexandria to McComb and eventually to Jackson, where she graduated from Murrah High School. She continued her education at Mississippi University for Women and later earned a Master’s degree in Education from Louisiana State University.
Education was at the heart of Temple’s life and career. She began her professional life as a first-grade teacher at Pecan Park Elementary in Biloxi, where she taught for 11 years. Her love of early childhood education eventually led her in a new direction, combining her background in education with her growing interest in educational television.
After returning to Jackson, Temple joined Mississippi Educational Television, now Mississippi Public Broadcasting, where she built a long and meaningful career. She eventually served as director of educational services and became known for her creativity, determination, and talent for writing grants and bringing new educational ideas to life. Her work included the educational programs Funnybones, GeoScout, and Ticktock Minutes, which received multiple honors, including regional and national Emmy Awards and a Bronze Apple from the National Film Video Festival. Through her work in educational television, Temple found a way to continue teaching children long after she left the classroom. Temple retired from Mississippi Educational Television in 2002.
She was adventurous and loved to travel. She was an avid bridge player, loved cats and dogs, and especially loved music and going to concerts. She had an extraordinary memory for lyrics, rhymes, and words, a reflection of the intelligence and quick wit that were such a memorable part of her personality.
Temple is survived by her uncle Jimmy Ben Walker (Anne) and many cousins and extended family, who will remember her for her intelligence, humor, curiosity, and independent spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nicholas John Lymberis, and her mother, Lynrose Lymberis, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 104.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to Rose Amos and the entire care team for their support, dedication, and devoted care in Temple's later years.
Temple’s life was marked by education, creativity, adventure, and a lifelong love of learning and music. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, MS 39157, US, on October 2, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Followed by a funeral service in the Trinity Mausoleum Chapel, at 3:00 pm.
