Teressa Kay McClendon, 75, of Tonganoxie, KS, passed away at her home on September 25, 2026. She was born on November 30, 1950, in Emporia, KS, and was raised in Kansas City, KS.
Teressa – known to her grandchildren as "Hamma" – was a woman defined by love and strength. She fought stage four tongue and throat cancer, and later lung cancer, with a fierce determination that never once dimmed her spirit. Even through the hardest years, she continued to live a full and meaningful life, choosing joy and family every day.
Teressa married Stephen McClendon on December 10, 1982, in Kansas City, KS. The couple moved to rural Tonganoxie, KS in 1983, where they made their home together until Stephen's passing on December 7, 2025. Teressa worked as a receptionist at City Lighting Products and then as a house keeper for a nursing home.
Above all, Teressa loved her family fiercely and completely. She had a gift for making every person in her life feel special. She loved her family and friends "to the moon and back," she would say.
In her younger years, Teressa loved riding horses, canoeing, and partying with her friends down on Millsap Mountain. Teressa also found joy in gardening. Her gardens were a reflection of her heart – patient, colorful, and full of life. More recently, she picked up diamond art and loved it, spending hours creating piece after piece. And when she wasn't in the garden or working on her latest project, there was a good chance she was shopping. She loved a good garage sale, a fun outing with her family, and coming home with something special for the people she loved.
Teressa is survived by her daughters, Michelle Mooberry (John Seymour) of Tonganoxie, KS, and Pam Noack (Tom Noack) of Creve Coeur, MO; her brothers, Kenny Stine II (Trish Stine) of Tonganoxie, KS, Robert Stine (Linda Stine) of Kansas City, MO, and Edward Stine of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren, Ashley Vielhauer (Zach Vielhauer), Riley McCombs, Brittany Waye (Luke Waye), Joah Noack, Justus Noack, and Chris McClendon; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson McClendon, Cole McClendon, Sadie McClendon, and Gracen Vielhauer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen McClendon; her parents, Kenny and Peggy Stine; brother Michael Stine Sr.; and her son, Karie McClendon.
Teressa will be remembered for her enormous heart, her unshakeable strength, and the love she poured into everyone around her. Her spirit lives on in every garden that blooms, every butterfly that visits, and every person she taught what it means to love fiercely, to the moon and back.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home (913) 334-3366
