Álvaro Martins Ferreira De Azevedo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy built on love, laughter, family, and friendship.

Born and raised in the City of Porto, Portugal, Álvaro carried the warmth, traditions, and spirit of his homeland with him throughout his life. Forty-four years ago, he immigrated to the United States, where he continued building a life centered around family, hard work, and community.

Álvaro was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Aurora Augusta Martins. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years; Teresa De Jesus Dos Santos Pacheco whose love and partnership were the foundation of their family.

Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and an enduring friendship that lasted a lifetime. Anyone who knew Álvaro and Teresa knew there was rarely a moment when they weren’t joking with one another, teasing each other, or sharing a laugh. Álvaro was always playing around with Teresa, and she was always right there with him. It was simply who they were together. Through every season of life, they remained best friends through and through—a beautiful example of companionship, joy, and unconditional love.

Together they built a beautiful life and raised two sons, José Carlos Pacheco Martins De Azevedo and his wife, Estela, and Julio Augusto Pacheco Martins De Azevedo and his wife, Karla. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Michael Azevedo and his wife, Joelle; Andrew Azevedo and his wife, Carmen; Katrina Azevedo and her fiancé, Nick; Julio Azevedo Jr.; Ricardo Azevedo; and Alex Azevedo. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of Amelia, Sophia, Alexyss, Andrew Jr., Elliott, Emily, Olivia, and Isla, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy and pride.A lifelong baker, Álvaro spent many years working at Publix Supermarkets and Moises Bakery. His talent, creativity, and dedication were reflected not only in his profession but also in the elaborate Christmas cakes he lovingly created for family celebrations. Those cakes became a treasured tradition and a symbol of the love he poured into everything he did.To know Álvaro was to know his smile. He loved being surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, making others laugh, and turning ordinary moments into celebrations. He enjoyed a good glass of wine, a sip of whiskey, and never missed an opportunity to sing “Happy Birthday”—even in Chinese. He loved to dance, regardless of the occasion or location, and brought energy and joy wherever he went.Álvaro was also a passionate soccer fan. Whether cheering for the Portuguese National Team, following S. C. Salgueiros from his hometown of Porto, or passionately supporting his beloved S.L. Benfica, he rarely missed an opportunity to watch a match. Soccer connected him to his roots, sparked countless conversations, and brought him the same excitement and enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of life. For many years, Álvaro was also known as the beloved Santa Claus at family Christmas Eve gatherings. Generations of children and grandchildren eagerly awaited his arrival, and he embraced the role with enthusiasm, warmth, and a twinkle in his eye that perfectly reflected his generous spirit.Over the past several years, JT’s Sports Bar & Grill in Pembroke Lakes became one of his favorite places. If you were looking for Álvaro, chances are you could find him there enjoying good food, good company, and lively conversation. It was a place that reflected what he valued most in life: connection, friendship, and time spent with the people he loved.Above all else, Álvaro’s greatest joy was his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of his world. He celebrated their accomplishments, treasured every visit, and took immense pride in watching the family he helped build continue to grow. Much of his life was lived for them, and his love for them knew no bounds. His wisdom, humor, generosity, and unwavering presence will remain with them always. After 87 years of a life beautifully lived, Álvaro leaves behind a family strengthened by his example and countless memories that will be cherished forever. Though he will be deeply missed, his laughter, songs, dances, stories, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. While his family will miss his laughter, dancing, stories, and songs, perhaps no one will feel that absence more deeply than Teresa, his wife, best friend, and greatest love for 68 remarkable years.Following the burial, family and friends are warmly invited to gather at JT’s Sports Bar & Grill, one of Álvaro’s favorite places, to share memories, stories, and celebrate a life filled with love, family, friendship, and joy.Até sempre, Marido, Pai, Avô e Bisavô. O teu amor viverá para sempre nos nossos corações.(Until we meet again, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. Your love will live forever in our hearts.)
