Barbara Jean Counterman, 89, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Accolade Healthcare of Peoria. Born in Champaign, IL, on December 2, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Homer C. Elam and Bernice B. (Pruitt) Hawkey.
Surviving is her granddaughter, Kenna (William Tanner) George. Aside from her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her life partner, Wade Gunn.
Barb had been previously employed as the coordinator of medical records for I.P.M.R. She enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with Kenna and the grand-cats.
Visitation will take place on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private at American Mausoleum. Memorial contributions can be made to PAWS. Condolences and memories may be shared through Davison-Fulton.com.
