Barbara Rego, 82, of Citrus Heights, California, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, with her beloved husband by her side.
Barbara was born on June 3, 1944, in Seattle, Washington, to Joseph Eugene Simms and Ethel May Hornsby Simms. She earned a bachelor’s degree and her teaching credential. During the early years of her adult life she worked as a teacher. She loved her time with her students and found great joy in helping and encouraging them.
Barbara met the love of her life in Oahu, Hawaii, in 1961. They were married on June 14, 1969 in Seattle, Washington. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Oahu Hawaii Temple on February 21, 1970.
Throughout her life, Barbara dedicated herself to serving others. Her faith was at the center of her life, and she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and sought every opportunity to help those around her. She devoted countless hours to the birth mothers’ program, homeless services, women’s shelter services, humanitarian efforts, church service, and Temple service. She gave freely of her time and heart, always looking for ways to make someone else’s life a little brighter.
Barbara was known for her joyful spirit. She believed in having fun and enjoying life. She loved traveling with her family and loved ones, especially trips to the Hawaiian Islands, a place that held a special place in her heart.
Family was everything to Barbara. She was always happy to be there for the important moments in the lives of those she loved. Her kindness, laughter, faith, and generous spirit touched the lives of many.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony Alfred Rego; her two sons and their wives, Blair (Brenda) and Adam (Heather); and her grandchildren, Alexis, Matthew, Madison and Lauren.
She was preceded in death by their baby girl B.C., her father, mother and sisters.
A graveside service open to all will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sylvan Cemetery, 7401 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Loaves and Fishes, 1351 N C Street, Sacramento, California in Barbara’s memory.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness and laughter will remain with us always, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on through her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
