Barton Matthew Hughes

Barton Matthew Hughes, of Gold Canyon and Pinetop, AZ, passed away August 6, 2026. Bart was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 7, 1943, to Warren Anson Hughes and Felice Agnes Forden Hughes. Bart is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn, son, Brandon, brother, Forden, sister, Bonnie Hughes Marcus, and his beloved nieces & nephews.

A stellar student and athlete, Bart was a graduate of Camelback High School where he was an All-State basketball player. He also played basketball at the University of Arizona and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Bart graduated from Arizona State University and became a C.P.A. His career in real estate finance for large homebuilding firms in California and Arizona spanned decades. A passion for golf, sports, travel and western novels led to a full life. As an avid reader of Louis L’Amour, he remembered fondly meeting the author and spending a day with him captivated by his stories of the west. A devoted golfer, on or off the course, Bart was the youngest President of Castlewood County Club in Pleasanton, CA, and later served as a Board Member at Pinetop Country Club in Arizona. A life celebration will be held on November 16, 2026, at Mariposa Gardens in Mesa, AZ. Please contact the family for further information.
