Billy Joe Reed passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born on April 16, 1937, in Tulare, California, Billy lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and love for his family. He was known for his kind heart, quiet strength, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Billy spent many years working as a school bus mechanic for Modesto City Schools, where he maintained and repaired the school bus fleet during the day, and worked as a security guard at night. He took great pride in his work and in knowing that his efforts helped safely transport countless children throughout the community. His strong work ethic and mechanical talent earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers and friends.

Family was the center of Billy's life. He treasured the time he spent with those he loved, whether sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply enjoying each other's company. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and loved ones.

In May of 2000, Billy married Sandra Mae Stephens Reed, and together they shared many years of love, companionship, and cherished memories.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Obin Reed and Ruby Mae Cummings Reed, his first wife Helen Ruth; his stepfather, Amos Houlden; his grandparents, Issac Noah Reed and Arra Armendia Harris Reed, and Charles Franklin Cummings and Minnie Ellen Hale Cummings; his siblings, Bobby Joe Reed and Nadine; and other siblings and children.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sandra Mae Stephens Reed; his children, Joe Wayne Reed, Roxanne Reed Sayers, and Brian Thomas Reed; five cherished grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Billy will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his honest and hardworking nature, and the quiet kindness he showed throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the values he instilled, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
