Carol “Sky” Solimine, born September 15, 1938, in Los Angeles, passed away on September 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Carol grew up in Ramona, CA, where she graduated from Ramona High School. After high school, she moved to San Diego and worked for Bank of America for 10 years in operations.
In 1961, Carol married the love of her life, Sal. Together, they raised their daughters, Sonna (Mike) Curran and Shana (Eric) Martinez, in Tierrasanta, where they lived for more than 30 years.
Carol’s greatest joy was her family, especially her four grandchildren, Jake and Taylor Curran and Tori and Carli Martinez. She was their number one fan and loved attending their sporting events. A devoted San Diego sports fan, Carol also passionately cheered for the Chargers and Padres.
Carol loved bringing family and friends together and was known for her wonderful holiday celebrations, big family barbecues, and Italian feasts. She was a woman of many talents who loved music, taught herself to play guitar, and enjoyed painting, sketching, and stained glass. She also had a flair for fashion, jewelry, and anything with a little bling.
Carol was a true patriot. Red, white, and blue were her favorite colors, reflecting her deep love and respect for her country and the American flag. With her husband Sal, her brother David, and her father Harold Cowley having served in the military, patriotism held a special place in her heart. Her home proudly displayed a large collection of American flags, along with her treasured collection of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia.
Carol and Sal spent many years coaching and volunteering with Serra Mesa Bobby Sox, where they made lifelong friends and created treasured memories.
Carol showed tremendous strength and resilience throughout her life, including during her battle with breast cancer and other illnesses. For the last 10 years, she lived at Casa de Las Campanas in Rancho Bernardo, where she received loving and compassionate care. Her family will always be grateful to the nurses and caregivers who treated her with such patience, kindness, and dignity.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sal; her brother, David; and her sisters, Donna and Phyllis.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, grandchildren, family, and many friends. Her love, generosity, strength, creativity, patriotism, and zest for life will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was, and always will be, our biggest fan.
