Carol Ann Tilbury passed away on September 17, 2026, at the age of 88.
Carol was born Carol Ann Jacoby on June 29, 1938, in Fresno, California. She graduated from Washington Union High School and went on to graduate from business college. While studying, Carol met the love of her life, John Tilbury, a charming Brit from Oxford, England. They married in 1959 and spent their life together traveling, cruising the world, and building a life filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories.
Carol was a loving mother and foster parent to several babies. She had a generous heart and was always looking for ways to help others. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she strived to follow a path with God at the forefront.
Carol worked for 30 years as a secretary for the U.S. government, including at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park and the Veterans Administration in Fresno.
Before retiring, they moved back to Fresno to be closer to family. She loved her home and the beauty of Woodward Lake.
Her greatest joy in her later years came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They absolutely melted her heart, and she treasured every moment she shared with them.
If you knew Carol, you knew the smiles and laughter she brought to everyone around her. She could make you laugh and shock you at the same time. Her laughter was infectious. She was witty, kind, compassionate, and always loving.
Carol is survived by her husband, John Tilbury; her daughter, Lisa Gatewood (Kenneth); her son, David Tilbury; her granddaughters, Paige Paul (John) and Olivia Redman (Zack); and her great-grandchildren, Weston Redman, Lily Paul, Harlyn Redman, and Baby Girl Paul. She is also survived by her brother, Timothy Jacoby (Linda), and her sister-in-law, Joyce Jacoby.
Carol was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Henry, Jr. and Hildur Jacoby; her infant son, Kent Tilbury; her grandson, Casey Tilbury; and her brother, Henry Leroy Jacoby, Jr.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone at Nazareth House, especially Father Jim, all of the nurses and caretakers, and the wonderful Sisters. Thank you for keeping Carol comfortable, for caring for her with such compassion, and for loving and blessing her through the end of her life.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
