Daniel Estrello

Dan Estrello, 92, formerly of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, at his home in Conroe, Texas.

Dan was born on July 14, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, to Gaudencio Estrello and Mary Alcalá Estrello. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1952 and served in both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps during the Korean War, notably as an airborne paratrooper.

Following his military service, he married Rose Marie Garcia on September 5, 1958, and they lived a life centered on family, community, and Catholic faith. He had a career with the Texas Highway Department for 30 years, retiring in 1988. Dan was passionate about sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns, and loved softball.

He was known for his calligraphy, making heartfelt birthday cards and handcrafted dollar-bill rings and hearts. Dan cherished family moments and supported his children and grandchildren at sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lupe Reyes and Josephine Picazo, and brothers-in-law Tony Garcia, Vic Garcia, Tony Reyes, and Ernest Picazo.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose Estrello; children Danny Estrello and Liz Colicher; grandchildren Diane Lachausse, Kristy Borden, Erica Clark, Darci Ward, Demi Stillinger, Katelyn Smith, Tori McQuerry, Michael Estrello, Derek Estrello, Tre’ Smith; 21 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews.

A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home on April 27, 2026, at 9:00 am, followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
