Dolores Martin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dolores Lucille Martin (née Hoegi) on May 2, 2026, at the age of 87. A longtime resident of Keewatin, Dolores was a woman of immense strength, fierce independence, and undeniable resilience. She lived life on her own terms, facing every challenge head-on and proving time and again that she could do absolutely anything she set her mind to.

Born in Saskatchewan on May 12, 1938, Dolores moved to Thunder Bay as a child with her mother. She was a natural entrepreneur and hard worker who wore many hats throughout her life. In Thunder Bay, she proudly owned and operated the Lakeview Lodge. In the early 1980s, she relocated to the Kenora area, where she built a full life and became a deeply rooted and familiar face within the community.

Dolores found great joy in community, nature, and the creative pleasures of life. She was an active and involved member of St. Andrew's United Church, and she loved spending time at the Matiowski Farmers' Market, where she thoroughly enjoyed helping her daughter, Becky. She was a passionate animal lover who cherished the company of many beloved dogs and cats throughout the years. She was also an avid gardener, an observant bird watcher, and a talented artisan who crafted beautiful stained glass. Some of her happiest times were spent captaining her houseboat, navigating the waters, and enjoying the beauty of Lake of the Woods.

Dolores faced profound grief in her lifetime with a quiet, enduring strength. She was predeceased by her mother, Molly Ewanchuk; her brother, Ross Hoegi; her sister, Geraldine Powell; her two best friends, Darlene Thomson and Mil Davis; and her five children, Christine Martin, Dana Martin, Scott Martin, Deborah Bouchard, and Rebecca Alcock.

Her legacy of resilience and love lives on through her large and beautiful family. She is lovingly survived by her grandchildren: Courtney Alcock, Dustin Alcock (Kylie), Heather Davis (Steve), Adam Martin (Germaine), Mandy Bouchard (Karl), Travis Bouchard (Nicole), Kathleen Bouchard (Darryl), Wendy Martin (Dave), and Robert Martin (Angela). She is also survived by her sons-in-law, Les Alcock and Philip Bouchard.

She is also survived by her cherished great-grandchildren: Hudson and Adrian Warmbier, with whom she shared an incredibly close, special bond and spent much of her time; Oakley Alcock; Gage and Julie Bouchard; Elizabeth and Katherine Duchominsky; Sullivan Loane; Kaiya Martin; Jaydan Martin; Kendra Clemente; and Wyatt, Julie, Wesley, Neela (DJ), and Wade Martin; as well as her great-great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Dolores's explicit wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, her family will gather for a private celebration of her remarkable life at a later date.
