Elizabeth Anne Dubois Hokama

2 août 2026 Sheenboro, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Elizabeth was fiercely independent, with an equally fierce concern for others. She became a divorce attorney to help spouses who might otherwise be overwhelmed or taken advantage of by hostile opposing lawyers. Whenever possible, she used mediation rather than litigation to help people find a way forward. She also devoted a great deal of her professional work to helping others pro bono, particularly children.

Elizabeth was also a passionate historical fiction writer. Drawing upon extensive genealogical and historical research, she wrote a series of novels called The Louisa Saga, based on the lives of her ancestors. Greensboro appeared in several of the books, and the connection she developed with the town through her family history and writing eventually led her to make her own home there.

Music was another enduring part of Elizabeth’s life. She especially loved classical music and singing, while enjoying many other kinds of music as well. She played both the violin and piano. She was also devoted to her beloved cats.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Hugh and Eleanor DuBois; her husband, Galen Hokama; and her brother, Tom. She is survived by her brother, David DuBois; her children, Rachel DuBois and Andrew DuBois Russo; and her three grandchildren.
