On August 9, 2026, Ellen (Horan) Kania flew into the arms of her Lord and Savior. The daughter of Joseph and Ida Horan, Ellen was born in Pennsylvania on June 14, 1940. She grew up in Mount Carmel, PA and moved to Corning NY with her husband Theodore and three daughters where she had a long career in Customer Service with Corning Incorporated. Most recently she lived in Hampton, VA. Her husband Theodore Kania, grandson Theodore O'Dell, Susan's beloved husband Michael Sorokach, brother Danny Horan and sisters Abby Bertino and Louise Ford preceded her in death, and she is survived by her three daughters, Lorri Heffron and her husband Alan Heffron, Susan Sorokach, all in Poquoson VA, and Bonnie Evans in Matthews, NC. She is also survived by her granddaughter Briana Russo and husband Cris Russo in Poquoson VA, great grandchildren Alabama Russo, Tayden O'Dell, Kyron O'Dell as well as brother Joe Horan and sisters Jean Lewis, Donna Wywadis, Margie Schiccatano and Mimi Kocevar.
An avid lover of Jesus, Ellen enjoyed nothing more than studying her Bible, growing in her Christian walk and sharing with others what she was learning. She also cherished spending time with family at Sunday dinners, birthday and special occasion parties, and holiday celebrations. She loved flowers of all kinds and spent much time tending both her indoor and outdoor plants.
We love and miss you Mom and Mama, but we rejoice that you are in heaven, fully healed and in the presence of Jesus. In lieu of a funeral service, a private celebration of life with local family and special friends will be held in Poquoson. A gathering with her PA family will also be held in the near future, and she will be laid to rest with her husband at All Saints Cemetery in Elysburg, PA.
