Elma Helen Patterson Baird

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elma Helen Patterson Baird on August 5, 2026, at the age of 98, with her loving family by her side at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in Kirkland, Quebec.

Born on October 31, 1927, in Wakeham, Quebec, Elma was the cherished daughter of the late Rupert and Helen Patterson.

Elma was the beloved wife of the late Bernard Baird, with whom she shared 72 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and kindness.

She was predeceased by her beloved son, Ricky ; her three sisters; and her three brothers.

Elma will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Linda and Dawna and her husband Danny Jones; her cherished grandchildren, Malcolm, Spencer, Vanessa, and Lindsay; as well as many nieces, nephews, her devoted caregiver Denyse, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and generosity.

Elma spent most of her life in Douglastown, Quebec, where she was a devoted member of her community. In 2022, she moved to Montreal to be closer to family.

She had a remarkable gift for knitting beautiful sweaters, blankets, mittens, and other handmade treasures, which she lovingly shared with family and friends. Her creations were expressions of her generous heart and will be treasured for years to come. She also found great joy in gardening, baking, and caring for those she loved. Above all, Elma’s greatest happiness came from spending time with her family.

Her quiet strength, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held in Gaspé the following summer. Service details will be announced by the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elma’s memory may be made to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence, whose compassionate care brought comfort and dignity to her final days.
