Frank Jeffrey Ballard

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Frank Ballard, who entered eternal rest on August 19, 2026 in Raleigh, North Carolina at the age of 66.

A beloved presence in the lives of many, Frank will be remembered with gratitude and affection for the warmth, kindness, and steadiness he brought to the community. Frank was born in Raleigh, N.C. on January 20th 1960 to William Howard and Eula Mae Ballard.

Alongside his wife, Marget, Frank poured his heart and rock and roll soul into Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery for over 28 years. Friends and neighbors alike will recall his dedication, generosity, and the quiet pride he took in making others feel special.

Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Marget Williamson Ballard, who shared in all of life’s joys and trials with grace and partnership. Their life together was marked by a dedication to friends and family and a long-standing love.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by Charlotte Kay Arrowood (Harold), John Robert Ballard (Diane), William Howard Ballard Jr. (Cherry, recently passed), Michael Lee Ballard (Jean), Elizabeth Ann Ballard, father and mother in law, Joe and Traudel Williamson, sister in law Stephanie Williamson Brinn (Joey) and many nieces and nephews.

Beyond family and work, Frank was a truly beloved community member—someone known not only for his presence, but for his character. He had a rare gift of sharing a story and made it a point to highlight those around him. Frank had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and welcomed in every moment.

Those who knew Frank will remember him for his love of making a moment special, his love of music (Bruuuuccceee), and his dedication to the restaurant that appeared in everyday moments. His memory will remain with those fortunate enough to have known him.
