Gene Cook

23 mai 2026 Dignity Memorial

Mr. Gene Ray Cook, a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Kentwood, Louisiana, passed away on May 23, 2026, at the age of 83. Mr. Gene enjoyed attending the Cowboy Church in Loranger, LA., after watching the kids, teenagers and adults rodeo on Sunday afternoons and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Gene was a Member of the High School Rodeo Association and was the 1961 All Around Cowboy State Champion for Louisiana. Gene won many cutting horse awards in Louisiana. For over 30 years he was a member of the Nation Cutting Horse Association. One of the horses trained by Gene was named Bob Acre Doc who was a great producing cutting horse. He became a very desirable horse because of his bloodline. On two separate occasions Gene was successful in reaching the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity Finals.

Along with rodeoing and training cutting horses, Gene spent numerous hours giving riding lessons which helped many people develop their love for horses. Nieces, nephews and friends loved spending weekends and summertime with their Uncle Gene and Jody at the barn.

Gene is survived by his son, Jody Cook and wife Candice; grand-daughters, Kylie and Kennedy Cook; siblings, Bert Cook (Wilhelmina), Sue Cook Peairs French (Rev. Tommy) and Donnie Cook (Elaine); and in laws, Rotha Cook, Roy Joiner and John Samson; nieces and nephews, Keith and Mark Cook, Danny, Skippy, Kevin Cook, Bob Cook, Stefanie Cook Bulot, Terri Peairs Summer, Scott Peairs, Tammy Joiner Smith, Todd and Tieg Joiner, Kristi Cook Boudreaux, Stacey Cook Merritt, Hailie Cook Gremillion and a multitude of loving great nieces and nephews.
