Gina Leanne Masten

20 juin 2026 Austin, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Gina Leanne Masten, 56, of Houston, passed away on June 20, 2026. Born July 30, 1969, Gina was a woman of remarkable creative gifts and steadfast faith-anchors that sustained her and cultivated the resilience that marked her life.

A talented artist working in multiple mediums, Gina's hands created beauty in sculpture, oil paint, and chalk. She began her education at the University of St. Thomas and Southwest Texas; however, Gina always knew that her true passion was art. Gina approached the The Art Institute of Chicago armed only with her portfolio of work and her determination. Her exceptional talent was recognized and Gina was awarded a full scholarship. While still an art student and working at a Volvo dealership, she spearheaded the donation of a vehicle to charity. Beyond the canvas, Gina loved music. She was a gifted musician who played guitar and sang with a beautiful voice.

Throughout her life, Gina always advocated for those in need. Known for her dry wit and giving the best hugs, she was a natural leader among neighborhood children in her youth. Gina had an extraordinary capacity for love, especially for animals; the dogs she adopted over the years found a caring home. Gina was faithful and turned to the Bible to provide her with strength and wisdom; the words she found in the scripture gave her the grace to continually face life's challenges. Gina's tender heart was sustained by the love of God and her devoted family.

Gina was joyfully reunited with her father, James L. Masten, and three cherished canine companions-Ranger, Tasha and Louie.

Gina is survived by her mother, Kathy Pannell Masten; her sister, Janette Masten Gardner, and her brother-in-law Bobby Gardner, her nieces, Kathryn Perry and Brooke Perry; her grandmother, Eva Densmore Pannell; her uncle, Edmond Masten; and her beloved rescue dog, Rosie, who carries Gina's spirit and continues to bring her family joy.

A private committal service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Gina's celebration of Life will be held at Chapelwood United Methodist Church on Monday, July 20th, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD.
