It is with great sadness we advise that our dear elder Gordon Jacobs passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday May 10, 2026 at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. Most commonly known as Gordie, he was born to his late parents Annie (nee: Wyse) and Henry Jacobs on August 18, 1936, in Nanaimo, BC. He grew up in Nanaimo and Xwmélch'tstn (Capilano IR No. 5). He spent his earlier years in Nanaimo and later attended St. Paul’s Residential School in North Vancouver. In his younger years, Gordie worked following the berry, apple, and hop harvests in Washington, USA, where he met the love of his life, Virginia. Married for 67 years, together they built a loving home and raised their family in Capilano. Gordie later worked alongside his father and brothers with Rutledge helping build the highway. In 1962, he became a proud Longshoreman with ILWU 500, where he worked until retirement. A passionate sports fan, Gordie could recall statistics and stories from countless teams and players. His favourite teams included the Leafs, Canucks, Dodgers, and Rams. He was also an exceptional pitcher and nearly went on to play for the Braves organization. Gordie additionally served as trainer for the NS Indians lacrosse Sr. B/C teams. Known for his kindness, generosity, and deep knowledge of family ancestry and traditions, Gordie was respected throughout the community. He was once recognized in the newspaper for saving a man from drowning in the Burrard Inlet. Gordie carried traditional teachings throughout his life, spending winters at the longhouse as firekeeper and always supporting community work whenever needed. Above all, Gordie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A true romantic at heart, he was always bringing flowers, chocolates, or thoughtful gifts to his beloved Virginia. His greatest pride and achievement was his family.Gordie is survived by his loving children Peggy Ann Williams (Ed), Monica Gay Jacobs, Alfred John Jacobs (Karlena), Mary Ellen Jacobs; special children Barbara Louise Nahanee (Walter), Nick Henry Jacobs (Lorraine), Melvin Paul Jacobs Jr.; grandchildren Gordon “Max” C. Paul Jacobs (Jaime), Edward John Williams, Craig Scott Jacobs (Brandy), John Kelly Jacobs, Alfred Frank Jacobs, Jewel Madeline Jacobs, Monica Ann Jacobs (Gary); great-grandchildren Savannah Faith Henry-Jacobs, Caleb Scott Jacobs, Cameron Wyatt Jacobs, Lexi Marie Jacobs, Craig Lawrence Jacobs; siblings David Patrick Jacobs (Andrea), Delcina Madeline George (Andy), Bonnie Jacobs, Connie Joan Nahanee, along with many loving relatives and dear friends.
