Guy Caldwell Chamberlain III

Lieutenant Commander Guy Caldwell Chamberlain III, USN (Ret.), 77, died on July 23, 2026, from complications with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was in the company of his loving family.

Born May 28, 1949, in Bethesda, MD, Guy was a graduate of Springbrook High School Class of 1967. He spent two years at the University of Maryland prior to receiving an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. While attending the Naval Academy, he served as the company commander of 13th Company.

After graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He served as the Main Propulsion Assistant and Navigator on USS EL PASO and earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation. He then transferred to the Civil Engineer Corps and held various facilities and public works positions in San Diego, CA, Charleston, SC, Diego Garcia, Norfolk, VA, Washington DC, and Louisville, KY and was the Executive Officer of Mobile Construction Battalion 133 in Gulfport, MS. Following his retirement from the Navy 1993, he was the Director of Facilities and Operations for Gwinnett County Public Schools in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 2001, his family moved to Charlotte, where he worked for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and retired in 2014 as the Chief Operating Officer for CMS.

Guy was an avid golfer, playing some of the best courses including Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Augusta National, and St. Andrews. He loved sports and was a diehard Redskins, Braves and Panthers fan. He was active in the community, serving as the Naval Academy Alumni Charlotte Chapter President and Boy Scout Troop 133 Committee Chairman, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution Mecklenburg Chapter. He enjoyed model ship building, classic rock, and was a talented artist. He had a quick wit and clever sense of humor, even during his decline from Alzheimer’s.
