Herbert Erwin Hugel AKA Herb or Grumpy of British Columbia passed away April 18th, 2026. He was born September 22, 1945 in Raab Austria. His family immigrated to Canada in 1948 and lived in Edmonton.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Jan. Daughter Shelley and her husband Michel. Their 3 kids Oliver (Emma), Emilie (Myles), and Soph. Son Kevin and his wife Michelle. Their three kids Joshua, Kayla and Brayden. Two great grandchildren Camille and Gabriel. His surviving siblings are his sister Traudie (Max), brother Waldy (Faye) and sister Irmy (Brant); brother in-laws Jim and Val; sister in-laws Arlene (Archie) and Dorie (John). He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Jakob and Katharina. His oldest sister Adel and sister in-law Marion.
He retired as the senior judge for the BC racing commission. He and his wife traveled, played golf, pickleball, cards and the other things done in retirement. The focus was always family.
