Irma Babiak

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Irma Babiak (née Peralta), 91, announces her passing on August 23, 2026. Irma was born December 4, 1934, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Hector and Evangelina Peralta.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Juan Babiak; her parents; her sister, Diana Guzmán; brother-in-law, Roberto Guzmán; and niece, Martha Gabriela (Bibi) Guzmán.

Irma was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Ursuline Academy in Laredo, Texas. She loved music—singing in the church choir and playing the piano and guitar—as well as traveling and serving her community. A faithful parishioner at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, she taught CCE classes, participated in the rosary prayer group, and volunteered teaching English to recent immigrants. Before taking early retirement to care for her mother, Irma worked for Federal Petroleum in Brownsville. She was an active volunteer at her children’s schools, serving as a Room Mother at St. Mary’s Catholic School and on the Advisory Board at St. Joseph Academy.

Irma is survived by her children: Juan Babiak, Jr.; Irma Pye (Sam) Gavito; and Adriana (Luis) Vazquez. She also leaves behind her nieces Diana (Fernando) Villarreal (and family), Claudia Guzmán, and goddaughter Susana Guzmán; sisters-in-law Carmen Babiak and Julia Babiak; brothers-in-law Fernando (Elva) Babiak and Javier Babiak; nephew and godson Tony Babiak; and extended family across the United States, Mexico, and Poland.

Visitation will be held at Angel Funeral Home Buena Vista on Saturday, August 29,2026 beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:00 p.m. followed by a chapel service at 1:00 p.m., concluding with the internment at same.
