James Damen McBraun passed away on September 3, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 54. He was born on January 17, 1972, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to James Tuiaana McBraun and Patricia Escorzon. James spent much of his younger years between Hawaii and San Francisco attending school in both places.
James was a man who genuinely enjoyed people. Outgoing, friendly, and never afraid to start a conversation, he had a natural ability to connect with those around him. That was something he passed along to his sons, teaching them how to introduce themselves, talk to people, make friends, and feel comfortable meeting others. His influence continues to show through his children, including his youngest son, who now serves in the youth ministry at church.
For 20 years, James was a dedicated member of the Wynn Las Vegas family. He began working at the hotel on October 6, 2006, and remained there for the rest of his life. His many years at Wynn reflected the loyalty and commitment he brought to the people and places that mattered to him.
One of the greatest parts of James’ life was the love he shared with his wife, Racquel McBraun. James and Racquel met at Moose’s Bar across from UNLV in Las Vegas and went on to share 23 years together. They married on August 4, 2009, sharing 17 years of marriage.
One of Racquel's fondest memories speaks beautifully to their love story. On their ninth wedding anniversary, while aboard a boat passing the Golden Gate Bridge, James surprised her by proposing all over again. The following year, on August 4, 2019, they celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary with the wedding and renewal of vows they had not been able to have the first time around. It became a beautiful celebration of the life and love they had already built together.
James loved sports and was a devoted Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49ers fan. Basketball held a special place in his heart, with Charles Barkley and Stephen Curry among his favorite players. He also enjoyed football, fishing at just about any lake he could find, and spending time at the beach.
Music was another important part of James’ life. He enjoyed reggae, soul, and R&B, including the music of Cecilio & Kapono, Fiji, and Smokey Robinson. And anyone who knew James knew about his love for shoes. James didn’t simply have a few favorite pairs; he had many, many shoes, a collection that became part of what made him unmistakably James.
More important than any hobby, team, song, or pair of shoes was James’ love for his family and the special bond he shared with his three sons, Nathan, Anthony, and Jhourney. That bond was built through the time they shared, the example he set, and the lessons he passed on to them. He taught them not only through his words, but through the way he lived, how to connect with others, how to be confident, how to always be a gentleman, and how to build meaningful relationships with the people around them. It is a bond, and a legacy, that his sons will carry with them throughout their lives.
James was a man of faith, and his faith was an important part of his life and the legacy he leaves behind. Though his life ended far too soon, the lessons he taught, the relationships he built, the conversations and laughter he shared, and the love he gave will continue through those who knew and loved him.
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Racquel; his three sons, Nathan, Anthony, and Jhourney; his family, friends, coworkers, and the many people whose lives were touched by his outgoing spirit and unforgettable personality.
