Janey was born in Sunwui, Canton Province, PRC on October 6, 1938. She immigrated to Canada. She married Philip Wing On Chiu on March 31, 1963 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Philip and Janey had three sons, Dennis, Edwin and Roland. Janey had a sister and is survived by her nieces and nephews in Vancouver as well as Philip’s two siblings and his nieces and nephews in Vancouver and Calgary.
Janey was a kind, hard-working and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt. She was skilled in making all sorts of Cantonese food, including Chinese New Year treats and black sesame pudding made from scratch. She is survived by her sons Dennis, Edwin (Nancy), Roland (Hiske) and her five grandchildren whom she cherished and loved Nicholas, Thomas, Emma, Dylan and Oliver.
In her later years, Janey bravely fought Parkinsons. She lived for the last several months at George Derby Care Centre and was taken care of by the wonderful staff. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The family will be holding a celebration of life on Tuesday morning, May 12th, 2026 at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel at 8:30 a.m. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn Chapel Grove. A lunch for guests will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Pelican Chinese Seafood.
