It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeff at CHUS Fleurimont, surrounded by the love of his family. Jeff passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 69. He was the son of the late Jean Mavis Downey and the late John Russell Smith.
Besides his wife, Hélène Lemire, Jeff leaves to mourn his daughter, Catherine (Dominic Larochelle), and his son, Scott (Claudie Comtois), as well as his beloved grandchildren: Charles-Edward, Rose, the late Lily, Jacques-Olivier, Léonard, and Jules.
He was the brother of Joyce Bailey (Keith Bailey), John Smith (Paula Smith), Jim Smith (Bev Beamish Hopkins / the late Sandy Smith), Janet Falvo (Angelo Falvo), Jerry Smith (Sherry Smith), and the late Judy Smith (Craig Audette).
He was also the brother-in-law of Odette Lemire (the late Lawrence Turner), Alain Lemire (Francinn Arpin), and Gisèle Lemire (Roger Lafontaine).
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The family will receive condolences at the Coopérative funéraire de l’Estrie (485, 24 Juin Street, Sherbrooke) on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A memorial ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel at the same location. It will also be possible to attend virtually by clicking on the “Live Broadcast” button.
Following the ceremony, his ashes will be laid to rest at the Les Jardins du Souvenir Cemetery.
You were an exceptional person, with all the little traits that made you who you were. Your laughter, your little habits, your unique way of expressing yourself. These 40 years we spent together will remain forever engraved in my heart. You were my soulmate throughout all that time, and I will never forget you, my love. - Hélène
As blue was Jeff’s favorite color, the family invites you to wear a blue article of clothing or accessory in his memory.
