Jimmy Nelson Baker

Jimmy Nelson Baker, age 88, of Monroe, North Carolina, stepped through Heaven’s Gates on August 18, 2026.He was born on November 22, 1937, to the late Dock T and Hattie Baker.Jimmy was a lifelong Union County native. He graduated from Indian Trail High School in 1956 and served as the Student Body President that same year. After graduating, Jimmy went on to work in the textile industry and owned his own textile business. He loved fishing and cherished family memories. Jimmy was also a PTA Treasurer at Indian Trail Elementary School and a longtime Baptist.He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, brothers Wayne, R.C., Gene, Aaron, and Smith Baker, and sisters Sara Baker, Louise McClain, Grace Riggins, Ruth Yarborough, Willie Eudy, Betty Pressley, and Dorothy Brooks. Surviving family includes his son R. Nelson Baker, daughter Sandra Benton Baker, grandchildren Kristi, Michael, Julie, Phillip, and many great-grandchildren.A visitation will be held on August 28, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel, with a funeral service following at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
