Joan E Sunbury, 85, passed away on July 25, 2026. Born on July 22, 1941, Joan was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and later made her home in Baytown, Texas.
Joan will be remembered with gratitude and warmth for the steady goodness she brought into everyday life. She had a way of giving that felt natural and unassuming—offered freely, without fanfare—rooted in a sincere kind-heartedness that made people feel seen and cared for. Just as important was her honesty: straightforward, dependable, and true, the kind that builds trust over a lifetime.
Her creativity and patience shone through in the simple joys she loved, especially diamond art and baking cookies. And it was often through those cookies that Joan’s generosity found its most familiar expression. She baked for everyone, then carried her treats to all sorts of places—the doctor’s office, the fire department, and anywhere else she thought someone might enjoy a little sweetness in their day. In those small deliveries was a larger message: you matter, and you are not forgotten.
Joan shared 35 years of marriage with John Sunbury. She is also survived by her three children, Lynn Staton, William Edgett, and Russell Edgett; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
