John Nelson Slavens

23 septembre 2026 Dignity Memorial

John Nelson Slavens passed away on September 23, 2026 at the age of 83.

Born in Yakima on September 14, 1943 to Nelson and Juanita Slavens. John graduated from Naches High School in 1962.

John was known for his flower gardens, planting hundreds of petunias every year. Generous and caring, John helped those in need. Winter months you would find him plowing snow wherever help was needed, no payment required except a sweet treat of cookies or fudge.

John and Lynne traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada on their Harley motorcycle making many lifelong friends.

John spent many hours visiting with friends over coffee. John could be seen spotting elk and sheep on Mt. Clemens with locals stopping to chat.

John never met a stranger, with his outgoing personality and storytelling he made many lifelong friends. He had a quick mind and talked easily with everyone he met.

Summers John spent many years at Rimrock Lake (Yakima Valley Boat Club) and ski patrol at White Pass during the winter months.

John had numerous professions but farming and ownership of The Naches Mobile Home Court, where he provided housing for the Naches community, were his favorite.

He is survived by his wife Lynne, brother Charles, daughter Beth Rhoads, son Mark and step-son Tom Watkins (Robyn). Proud papa to Dusty John, Sarah Beth Poff (Tristan), Kylee (Bug)(Thomas), Bradyn, Liam, and Addie Watkins. Two great grandchildren, Demitri Poff and Rosemary Benscoter.

John was preceded in death by his father Nelson and his mother Juanita.

A celebration of John’s life with family will be held at a later date.

You will be missed.
