John Romero Velasquez

John Romero Velasquez, 64, entered into loving of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 26, 2026, after facing recent health struggles that he met with resolve, fighting to the end. Born July 1, 1962, in Brawley, California, John later made his home in Fresno, California, and will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude by all who knew him.

John was born in El Centro, CA to Mary Romero and was raised by his stepfather, Ernesto Ibarra, whom he loved very much. He carried that love of family with him throughout his life, along with a steady sense of duty and a quiet strength that showed itself most clearly in the way he met both responsibility and hardship.

In 1981, John enlisted in the United States Army. He served for six years and took great pride in his service as a self-propelled artillery turret mechanic—work that called for discipline, skill, and a dependable hand. That same commitment continued in his civilian career, where he worked in security for schools, concerts, and NFL events, and also served as a probation officer. He retired in February 2014, closing a long chapter of service marked by vigilance, professionalism, and care for the well-being of others.

John never married and had no children. Above all, he shared a lifelong relationship with his girlfriend, Evelyn Moran, for nineteen years. Their love carried them through trials and triumphs. In Evelyn’s words, “She always loved her baby.”

Visitation will be held at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, 202 North Teilman Avenue, Fresno, California 93706, on September 8, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on September 8, 2026, at 5:30 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel on September 10, 2026, at 10:00 am. Graveside Service will follow at St. Peters Cemetery, 264 N Blythe Avenue, Fresno, California 93706, on September 10, 2026, at 11:00 am.

Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Cervantes, Gilbert Martinez, and Evelyn.
