Karen Dorothy (Klahn) Hubbard 77, of San Antonio, TX, joined the Lord on Saturday September 5, 2026.
Born on October 5, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, Karen was one of three children born to Kenneth and Frances Klahn. Throughout her life, Karen was known for bringing love and laughter everywhere she went. She was very involved in her church family and loved spending time with family and friends. Her love and caring of others, along with her wit and sense of humor made a lasting impact on all that were blessed to know her.
Karen, along with her older sister Kathy and younger brother Bobby, grew up in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1966. In her early years, Karen worked as a dental assistant. Later in life, she greatly enjoyed her time running a catering company with several close friends in San Antonio, Texas. Her greatest joy was all the time she spent with family and raising her children.
Karen married Carl Hubbard in 1972. They raised their two sons, Kevin and Jason, in San Antonio. Karen relished her role as Mom and Hubba and was overjoyed when she became Grammy to Kevin’s son, Micheal (born 1997) and Jason’s son Mason (born 2011). Karen was thrilled to add Great Grammy to her list of names when Michael added to the family with Charles (born 2024) and James (born 2026). Carl and Karen celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary earlier this year. She has left an incredible legacy of love for her family to continue.
Throughout Karen’s life, her faith was very important to her and evident to all those blessed to know her. She spent many years dedicated to serving others through various ministries at Shearer Hills Baptist Church. She followed the Lord’s calling to begin several ministries within her church family, including the Women’s Ministry, Mothers of Preschoolers, and the Heart-to-Heart mentor program. Over the years she was involved in countless events, programs, Bible studies, Vacation Bible Schools, and Sunday school classes. Most things in her life pointed back to her love for Jesus, whether it was baking her beloved cakes, making wreaths to give away, building elaborate gingerbread houses, completing 1000-piece puzzles, or reading enough books to fill a library. She loved making memories with her friends and supporting her family in all their endeavors.
Karen will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her, but we rejoice in knowing she is celebrating her eternal reward in the arms of her Savior, Jesus!
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Shearer Hills Baptist Church on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 am.
