Katherine Elizabeth Steiner

Raleigh, NC – Katherine (Kathy) Steiner, 83, wife of J. Scott Steiner, died peacefully at Wake Medical hospital surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Kathy was born March 24,1943, in Bethlehem, PA. to parents Bruce and Betty Haslett. She attended Upsala College of East Orange, NJ. Where she met her husband Scott.

Kathy and Scott raised their 3 children in Randolph, NJ where Kathy was very active in her community, serving as a substitute teacher and cheerleading coach.

She later moved to Savannah, GA, then finally to Raleigh, NC for the winters to be around her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the summers with Scott at the Jersey shore. Her generous spirit shined as she served various charities. She also had a friendly personality which helped her make many close friends throughout her life. In Raleigh, she filled her days with the warmth of these friendships, debating a great novel at book club, or sharing laughs at coffee, lunch, and dinner with her dearest friends. She also loved solving the latest puzzle, knitting beautiful scarves for family and friends, cooking delicious meals or doing her best to beat Scott in a nightly game of Rummikub. If there was a piano in the room, she could wow the crowd by playing any tune and getting everyone to sing along. And if Duke was playing, you bet Kathy was watching and dressed in her favorite color blue. Go Blue Devils!

In addition to her husband of 61 years, Kathy is survived by her children, daughters Carey Giamportone and her husband Jack, Kim Proulx and her husband Jon and Pamela Roper, and her husband, Mark all of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Alexis, Alyssa, Marissa and; Joey; and her sister-in-law, Madge Divine and brother-in-law Reid Steiner.

Katherine Steiner was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Betty Haslett, and her brother, Richard.

A Celebration of Life may be held at a later date in Raleigh and/or Pt Pleasant Beach, NJ. Details to Follow.
