Lester Darrell Worley, age 78 of Clayton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at UNC Healthcare in Smithfield, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Clipp officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Darrell was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on January 14, 1948, to the late Lester B. Worley and the late Bertie Mae Ross Worley. Later the family moved to Henderson, North Carolina where he lived with his parents until his graduation.
He was a project manager with Wake Med Hospital until his well-earned retirement in 2024. Prior to that he was an employee with Dominion Resources for 28 years.
Throughout life, Darrell found great joy in the simple blessings of faith, family, and friendship. A devoted member of the church, he faithfully served in various roles over the years, sharing his time and talents. As a lifelong lover of music, he enjoyed singing in choirs from an early age. Darrell enjoyed time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories during beach vacations, holiday gatherings, and everyday moments together. He was a lifelong learner and embraced every opportunity to grow, discover, and learn from others. Above all, Darrell treasured the relationships that enriched his life and will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and genuine appreciation for those around him.
