Louis Marchetti Jr.

Louis Marchetti was always referred to as Louie. He was well known around Great Kills and was loyal to all the stores and businesses in his neighborhood.He was 88 years old. He and Helen were parishioners of St. Clare’s and later, St. Patrick’s.Louie was born in Downtown Brooklyn on York Street, where his parents owned a restaurant serving meals to all the local residents and workers. He enjoyed his childhood there with his sister Theresa and brother Tony. He graduated from George Westinghouse High School.He met the love of his life, Helen, when he was 17 years old through mutual friends. He joined the Army to serve his country and became a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He served for four years, receiving a Medal of Good Conduct.He married Helen shortly afterwards at Holy Ghost Church in Brooklyn. Helen and Louie had three children, Maureen, Laura, and Joseph.They were blessed with four grandchildren: Kaitlin, Megan, Jimmy, and Jessica. They also have five great-grandchildren: Sean, Charlotte, Zachary, Colin, and Benjamin, who will be here in four weeks. Over the past few years, his great-grandchildren constantly put a big smile on his face.Louie worked for The Dreyfus Corporation, where he was the head of the printing department. He enjoyed a full career and took great pride in his work.After his retirement, he worked as an international delivery person for a company, which allowed him to travel all over the world. He loved to explore and was able to visit many countries in his spare time, including Singapore, Ireland, China, Thailand, Germany, Belgium, England, France, and Italy.He was especially excited for his trip to Jerusalem, which was a lifelong wish. He looked forward to seeing the holy sites and experiencing the history and beauty of the city.His favorite quote was, “If you are going to do something, do it right or not at all.” He also made sure everyone was taken care of when they came to visit and would constantly ask if they needed anything. He would say “Do you want an ice cold bottle of water? Something to eat?” until you agreed have something.Louie and Helen loved going out to dinner. There was a time when they would go out to eat every Friday night with Mary Corey, Louie’s sister-in-law.Louie enjoyed reading books, fishing, gardening, and playing the lotto. When he was younger, he enjoyed going to Atlantic City. He also loved vacationing in the Poconos at his father-in-law’s summer house, where he made many wonderful family memories.Most importantly, Louie took great care of his family. His family was of the utmost importance to him. He loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and making sure they were always cared for. His family was truly his greatest joy and his proudest accomplishment.
