Lt. Col. Candido "Candi/ Farruco" J. Corrada

Candido Jose Corrada of Puerto Rico, passed away in San Antonio, TX on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the age of 92. He was born on April 11, 1934, in San Juan and lived his formative years in Morovis.

He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, cum laude. He was also honored as the AF ROTC Distinguished Graduate of the Year. He later received his master’s degree in finance.

Candido joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and served his country for 20 years on active duty, followed by 8 years in a civil service capacity at East Kelly AFB. Over his distinguished career, he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM). Among his many honors, he served as the officer in charge of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s funeral, was a missile launch officer during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and launched the first Air Force Titan II missile. He was later appointed Director of the West Finance Center for the DOD Commissary Systems and received the Distinguished Supply Services award four times. After retiring from active duty, he opened five Howard Johnson’s restaurants in Puerto Rico as General Manager for HJ Corporation before transitioning to civil service.

He was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus and Habitat for Humanity, and served as a lector and volunteer for various Catholic Church ministries. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast who loved dancing, listening to music, solving Sudoku puzzles, and working crossword puzzles. He was a loving husband and the wonderful father of six children. He was also the oldest of 14 siblings.

He is preceded in death by his father, Romulo Corrada; his mother, Ana Maria Del Rio; his sisters, Clotilde Corrada and Ana Maria (Ita) Corrada; and his brothers, Baltasar Corrada, Romulo Corrada, and Raphael Clemente Corrada.

He is survived by his wife, Vilma Corrada; his children, Roberto Corrada, Maria Leija, Rosario Carrington, Ana Corrada, Carmen Meyer, and Teresa Kuehler; and his brothers and sisters, Jero Corrada, Bishop Emeritus Alvaro Corrada, Camon Corrada, Josepha Corrada, Juan Corrada, Magdalena Sofia (Tata) Corrada, Ramon Corrada, and Francisca (Panchi) Corrada.

The family would like to thank the Lynridge Care Facility and Reliant Hospice for the care and compassion they showed their loved one in his final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at the Shrine of St. Padre Pio, 3843 Bulverde Pkwy, San Antonio, on Friday, May 1st at 10:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, TX 78232, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209 on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 10:45am. Those in attendance are asked to arrive at Committal Shelter 4.
