Curtis Lyn Sockwell, known to family and friends as Lyn or Papaw, was born on January 21, 1956, in San Angelo, Texas, to Curtis Leon and Ruby Maurine Sockwell. He grew up alongside his brother, Larry Don Sockwell. Lyn is preceded in death by his parents and his brother.

On July 10, 1976, Lyn married the love of his life, Deborah Dell Gardner Sockwell. Together, they built a life centered around family and raised three children: Dustin Sockwell, Jeremy Sockwell, and Kristen Sockwell Wheeler.

Lyn was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one.

His son Dustin and his wife, Christi Sockwell, have four daughters: Hayley, Reagan, Taylor, and Piper.

His son Jeremy and his wife, Jannah Sockwell, have six children: Emmah, Jacen, Tegan, Nolen, Hadde, and Jaxen. Emmah is the mother of Lyn’s great-granddaughter, Oakleigh.

His daughter Kristen Sockwell Wheeler and her husband, Michael Wheeler, have two children, Cooper and Reese.

Lyn spent more than 40 years working in the oil and gas industry, where he built a respected career in Health, Safety, and Environmental work. He took great pride in his profession and was highly regarded for his knowledge, experience, and dedication to the field. As an Eagle Scout, Lyn carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and service throughout his life.

Lyn enjoyed the simple things that made life good. He loved playing golf, cooking out, spending time with family and friends, laughing, telling stories, and simply enjoying the people around him.

He will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, kind heart, and the joy he brought to those around him. Above all, Lyn loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them. He was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to many.

Lyn’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the countless memories shared with those who knew and loved him. His laughter, kindness, and love of life will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on the lives of others will remain for generations to come.
