Marvin Glenn Hollis

Marvin Glenn Hollis passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2026, at the age of 101, in the comfort of his home in Jacksonville, Florida.

Marvin was born on November 4, 1924, in Guymon, Oklahoma, to Fernando McDonald Hollis and Anna Eliza Crismon. Having lost his mother at a young age and his father at 12, Marvin faced early hardship that shaped his enduring determination, resilience, and deep concern for others.

A proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Marvin enlisted on November 24, 1941, at just 17 years old, shortly before the United States entered World War II. He served honorably for four years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he was stationed on Midway Island for 17 months, including during the Battle of Midway—one of the most important naval battles of World War II and a decisive turning point in the war.

Following his military service, Marvin attended the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1949. While there, he was recognized as one of the university’s outstanding students by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and later served the organization as Secretary-Treasurer.

Marvin built a successful career in farm equipment sales and management, working with Florida Tractor Corporation and Smith Hardware Company, Inc.

A man of deep faith, Marvin was a devoted member of the Methodist Church. He lived his faith through quiet acts of service and generosity, supporting more charitable organizations than can be counted.

To Marvin, no one was ever a stranger—he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friend or family alike.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially caring for his lawn, and was a devoted fan of the Florida Gators and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Marvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Isabel W. Hollis; his parents; his son-in-law, Edwin Mathis; his siblings, Ermin Hollis, Orlea Hill, and Bill Hollis.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Jan H. Mathis; his grandsons, Jeremy Mathis, Cody Mathis; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marvin will be remembered for his service, his faith, and his steady devotion to his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Murray Hill United Methodist Church or the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

Visitation will be held at Murray Hill United Methodist Church, 4101 College St, Jacksonville, FL 32205, on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will take place at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, immediately following the conclusion of the funeral service.
