Mary Ure Chilaka

Mary U. Chilaka, age 46 of Houston, TX, passed was on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Houston Methodist Hospital, after a brief illness.

She was born June 14 1980, in Nsukka, Nigeria, only daughter and the third of five children of Dr. Samuel Ezera Nwojo and Rebecca Nwojo.

In December 2010, Mary married Iheanyi Chilaka, and together they had two children; daughter, Chloe; and son Christopher.

Mary worked in healthcare, first as a registered Dental Hygienist, (BS, New York University) then as a Registered Nurse (BSN, University of Texas Cizik School of Nursing) at several hospital in the Houston Medical Center. At her time of death, she was a PHD candidate at Cizik as a Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner.

Her zeal for education was evident to all who knew her. She made friends easily and liked to bring people together. She was passionate about family and loved to travel.

In addition to her husband, children and parents, Mary is survived by her brothers Dr. Raphael Nwojo, Michael Nwojo, Dr. Macaulay Nwojo, and Zachariah Nwojo. She also leaves behind mother-in-law Regina Okechi Chilaka, brothers-in-law Ogbonna & Onyebuchi Chilaka; sisters-in-law Chioma Chilaka, Ugochi Mondestin, Joyce Chilaka, Ola Nwojo and Elizabeth Nwojo; nephews Kelechi, Raphael Jr., Connor, Samuel II and Noah; Nieces Zoe, Zara, Zadie, Oluchi, and Amarachi.

Mary is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her.
