Matthew Bronson

12 juin 2026 Charette, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Matt, 78, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, in Charlotte. Born March 27, 1948, in the Bronx, NY, he was a resident of Fort Mill, SC.

He was the son of the late Nathan and Elizabeth Bronson. Following graduation from DeWitt Clinton High School, Matt furthered his education at Pace University, where he earned a degree in accounting.

Matt was a CPA whose long career spanned both public and private accounting. He began with Arthur Andersen in New York City, then spent many years in various accounting roles with The Stanley Works in CT and OH. In the late 1990s, he relocated to Columbia, SC, to work with Cooper Industries, and he ultimately retired from GIW Industries in 2016.

A loving husband and father, Matt met Ilene Epstein while living in New York. Together they built a life and raised their family over 28 years of marriage, until her death in 2000. Ilene was the mother of his children, Michelle and Scott. He later married Joann Bates.

Matt was an avid New York Mets and New York Jets fan with a witty, sarcastic sense of humor. He loved traveling the world and taking in the local culture, food, and theater. He also enjoyed blackjack and poker — at the casino or on a device — often with a fine cigar in hand. In his younger years, he loved playing tennis and racquetball. While sometimes having a hard exterior, Matt had a soft spot for dogs.

Matt is survived by his wife of 18 years, Joann Bates; his two children, Michelle Turner of Fort Mill, and Scott (Jennifer) Bronson of Leawood, KS; his four grandchildren, Nathan, Rachel, Rebekah, and Leah; and his sister, Ellen Greene of Simsbury, CT.
