Myra Lucille Lewis, 83, of Avinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in New Braunfels, Texas. She was born on December 24, 1942, in Newgulf, Texas, to Dixie Inez (Cherry) and Robert Harvey Newberry.
Myra grew up in Angleton, Texas. She met the love of her life, Rayford Thomas Lewis, while attending East Texas Baptist College, and they married on December 29, 1962. The couple lived for many years in San Antonio before retiring to Avinger,TX, where they made their home.
A Certified Public Accountant by profession, Myra was a woman of deep faith. She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the age of 10. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor, demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience throughout her life.
Myra was known as an extraordinary quilter, one of the best many had ever seen. She loved playing the piano and played for her Church for many years. She loved preserving food and could can just about anything. Though quiet by nature, she possessed a quick wit and was a steadfast, loving supporter of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rayford Lewis; her sister, Kay Lewis; stepsisters Glenda Burwood and Sandy Stepp; her children, Cherry Kiser, Robert Lewis, Richard Lewis, and Ronnie Lewis and wife Kamady; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Connie, Rachel, Ryan, Addison, Ellie, Reagan, and Beaux; and four great-grandchildren, Charles, Evelyn, Cora and Natalie Kiser
Preceded in death by Parents, Robert and Dixie Newberry and step father, Thomas Hamilton
Myra’s life was marked by quiet strength, devotion to family, and a generous spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
