Nancy Elaine Roehrs

Nancy Elaine Roehrs, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born June 22, 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Lionel C. and Sara E. Smaltz. Nancy graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1955. From 1955-1957, she attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She studied for a semester at the University of Mexico in Mexico City, before enrolling at The Ohio State University to finish her studies. While in Mexico and at Ohio State she participated on a synchronized swimming team. In 1959 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. After graduating, she worked as a physical therapist for the Richland County Crippled Children’s Society and established and led the Physical Therapy Department at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, Ohio. She married Walter C. Roehrs in Mansfield, Ohio on August 21, 1960. Nancy moved to Columbus with her husband Walt, and worked as a physical therapist for Children’s Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital, and Ohio Health, with over 30 years of service. She was active in her church, community organizations, and enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting, skiing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
