Naomi "Linda" Coleman

Naomi “Linda” Coleman, age 63, passed away on June 2, 2026. Born January 25, 1963, in Newton, Kansas, Linda was the daughter of Thomas Henry Hatch and Mary Esther Hatch, and the fifth of six children. Though her family lived in various places across the country, West Plains, Missouri was home for much of her childhood. She graduated from West Plains High School in 1981 and, at the age of 18, enlisted in the U.S. Army.

From 1981 to 1984, Linda completed basic training and served as a Combat Tele-Communication Specialist (72 Echo 10), stationed at Fort Gordon, Fort Hood, Texas, and overseas in Germany. While in Germany, she met her husband, James Coleman. In 1984, after completing her commitment to the U.S. Army, Linda and James married and began the life they would build together over 42 years of marriage. Together they welcomed three daughters—Shawntel, Shabrika, and Shareese—whom Linda loved deeply and devotedly throughout her life. She was also a proud grandmother to two granddaughters, Jordan and Kai, who were especially close to her heart.

After relocating to Texas, Linda soon made Houston her home for the remaining years of her life. For 17 years, she was a stay-at-home mom, a role she embraced with steady devotion and a clear sense of what mattered most—family. Her care was constant, her presence grounding, and her love evident in the everyday ways she showed up for those she cherished.

Linda later served the State of Texas with distinction, completing 19 years of service with the Texas Department of Public Safety and retiring in April 2026. She was a dedicated employee and a mentor to others, known for her positive disposition and her readiness to help anyone in need. Those who worked alongside Linda remember not only her reliability and professionalism, but also the warmth and encouragement she brought into the workplace—leaving a lasting impact on many.

Linda found joy in the people she loved and the simple comforts of time spent together. She especially treasured family time with Jordan and Kai. She enjoyed yearly family vacations at their beach property in Galveston, and at home she delighted in science fiction, mystery, and Christmas movies—often paired with a cold Dr. Pepper and a bowl of popcorn. When the weather was nice, she enjoyed motorcycle rides with her husband, moments that reflected the ease and companionship they shared.

When her children were young, Linda volunteered at their elementary schools, where she formed lifelong friendships and made a meaningful difference alongside those she served with. Whether at school, at work, or at home, Linda carried a steady kindness and a generous spirit—offering help without hesitation and bringing lightness through her sense of humor.
