Pascual "Sonny" Cortez

Pascual (lovingly known as Sonny) Cortez, 81, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, with his family by his side.

Sonny was born in Artesia, New Mexico. When he was a child, his family moved to El Paso, Texas. As a young adult Sonny & his family moved to Los Angeles, California. Eventually he moved back to El Paso, Texas, to be close to his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Pascual Cortez, Sr.; his mother, Pauline Sewell; and his grandson, Kenneth "Little Kenny" Michael Ford.

His memory lives on through his children: Sylvia (Eddie) Torres; Pascual (Anita) Cortez, Jr.; Yvette (Wesley) Cortez; Veronica Cortez, Michael (Lorena) Cortez; Robert (Yesica) Cortez; David (Joanna) Cortez.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nicole (Alex) Portillo, Matthew (Ana) Cortez, Amber (Juan) Aguilar, Adrian & Brandon (Aileen) Valenzuela, David (Karissa) Briseno, Ryan, Jordan, Nathan, Galilea "Gali" & Ava Cortez, along with 7 great grandchildren. They will all miss their "Grandpa Sonny". He also had nieces and nephews in El Paso, California & Australia.

Additionally, Sonny is survived by his sisters: Mary Lou Frank, Linda Bennett; Anne Irons and his brother Rick Cortez.

Sonny enjoyed spending time with his children & grandchildren. He enjoyed going to Peter Piper Pizza with his family & watching his grandchildren play. His favorite pastimes were listening to his oldies & watching his western movies on Grit.

Visitation & Rosary will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
