Rafael C. Garcia, 84, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.

Born on July 24, 1941, in Reynosa, Mexico, Rafael's life was defined by perseverance and hard work. At just twelve years old, he left school to work in the citrus fields, a childhood responsibility that grew into a career spanning over five decades. He raised his family in La Feria, Texas. Rising before dawn, Rafael believed that providing for his family was a sacred duty. Through honest labor, he earned deep respect and instilled in his children the value of education, honesty, responsibility, and perseverance.

Outside of work, Rafael found joy tending the nearly one-acre yard and garden he lovingly cultivated. He planted countless trees and flowers, creating beauty with patient hands. He loved to sing, color, appreciate nature, and read—including reading the Bible and praying the rosary alongside his wife—passions he could finally pursue more fully in retirement.

His compassion extended to every living thing. Birds gathered at the feeders and birdbath he maintained. Stray dogs were welcomed with food and fresh water, and cats always found a home there. His quiet care reflected a gentleness expressed through actions rather than words.

A defining family lesson came during a powerful storm. As severe weather threatened their home, Rafael gathered everyone, ensuring they had shoes and blankets, and reminded them, "Everything in this house is replaceable, but you all are not." These words remained a lasting reminder that people are always more valuable than possessions.

Rafael's life was one of both strengths and struggles. Those who knew him understood his complexity, alongside his unwavering work ethic and deep devotion. His legacy lives on through the family he loved and the values he instilled.
